Contactless technology, which has become a mandatory element in all areas of life, has stimulated more active use of electronic menus in public catering.

For now, restaurant owners have limited themselves to posting their menus in the form of photos on their company websites or social media accounts. To view them, you need to click on a link in your Instagram profile or scan a QR code located literally anywhere with your smartphone.

„Due to the pandemic and the closure of restaurants in April 2020, we were forced to cut back on our menu, which was very extensive. After the restrictions were lifted, we created a shortened menu and placed stickers with QR codes on the tables,” says Marchellis, a restaurant chain.

For some time now, it has been popular to create your own mobile applications combining functions and menus, loyalty cards and feedback channels. However, time has shown that this is too cumbersome.

We need to remember the password from the app store and download it. This takes time and effort. In addition, the app will take up space on your phone. Not everyone can master such an 'entry threshold’.

At the same time, the expert emphasises that simply posting a photo on the Internet is not enough. „This is just the beginning of the journey. The menu can be supplemented with functions such as ordering in the restaurant, takeaway, delivery, table reservations and the option to leave reviews. The QR menu becomes a single point of interaction between the restaurant and the guest.”

This format provides establishments with an effective tool for working with the public. This includes organising their own deliveries so that they do not have to pay draconian commissions to aggregators, who take up to 35% of the order value.

Developers from Warsaw create solutions not only for local companies. For example, the electronic menu WMenu is actively expanding into other regions.
